Saif Oraibi is an Iraqi producer, director, writer, and musician, born in 1986 in Baghdad and raised in Cairo. He entered the arts through music, studying under the renowned Oud player Naseer Shamma. His profound love for cinema led to his first production experience with “The Fourth Pyramid” movie, which starred Ahmed Hatem in his first leading role and was written and directed by Peter Mimi. Released in early 2016, the movie was well-received by critics and audiences alike, topping the box office.
This success was followed by “The Monkey Talks,” also written and directed by Peter Mimi and released in early 2017. It gained significant popularity. However, Oraibi surpassed himself with the movie “122,” which is considered the most notable work of his career. This film was included in the list of the top 100 movies worldwide for the year 2020, marking a milestone as the first of its kind in Arabic cinema history with revenues exceeding twenty-four million Egyptian pounds. Despite his cinematic achievements, Oraibi never abandoned his first love—music. He produced “Habayeb Zaman,” an album by artist Mohamed Mohsen, and released his own masterpiece, “Gilgamesh.” This album, composed of various musical pieces by Oraibi, reflects his Iraqi heritage and is inspired by the famous Epic of Gilgamesh. His musical talents also led him to compose the soundtrack for the “Kalabsh” series. Saif Oraibi is currently preparing for several new projects, most notably the movie “The Crows,” slated for release in 2025, and the “The Whale” series, set to premiere during the Ramadan season of the same year.
Maqam Media Production was founded in 2014 with its first headquarters in Egypt, located in the Mohandiseen district of Giza Governorate. The company has recently expanded by opening a second branch in Dubai and is planning to establish its third branch, which will be its first in Europe, soon.
